Commercial, Lyrical & Contemporary

Commercial

Commercial dance represents a wide variety of dance styles, including modern, jazz, hip-hop, breakdancing, and more. The choreography for commercial dance is typically used for concerts, music videos, television shows, movies, and others. It is unique in that it allows its dancers to perform with freedom of movement, adding in their own personalities. Our commercial classes are non-syllabus classes and groups are separated by age and ability.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance is very similar to ballet, combining the many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom, fluidity, expressiveness and airier aspects of jazz, contemporary and modern dance. Lyrical dance is expressive, simultaneously subtle and dynamic, focused on conveying musicality and emotion through movement. We offer two lyrical classes, our junior class is suitable for students aged 7-11 and our senior class is for students aged 11+ and they are both a non-syllabus class.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a popular form of dance which developed during the middle portion of the twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the dominating performance genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world. In terms of the focus of its technique, contemporary dance tends to utilize both the strong and controlled legwork of ballet and modern dance’s stress on the torso, and also employs contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristic of modern dance. Unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed, and direction are often used, as well. Our contemporary classes are suitable for students aged 11+ and are a non-syllabus class with a strong technical focus.
